How Often Should You Service Your Cartier?
Cartier recommends a full movement service every 3–5 years for mechanical watches. In practice, well-maintained pieces in low-impact environments can often run 5–7 years between services. The key is not to wait until the watch stops — lubricants that have dried or migrated can cause wear to components that would otherwise remain in perfect condition.
For quartz models (Tank Solo, Ballon Bleu Quartz, Panthère Quartz), a battery change every 2–3 years is the essential maintenance interval. A dead or leaking battery left inside the case can corrode movement components — a far costlier repair than a timely battery change from S$35.
Signs Your Cartier Needs Servicing
- Gaining or losing more than ±15 seconds per day (mechanical)
- Crown stiff, gritty, or feels different when winding or setting
- Power reserve shorter than expected
- Moisture, condensation, or fogging visible under the crystal
- Unusual sounds — ticking irregular, scraping, or rattling inside the case
- Watch stopping intermittently (common sign of dried lubrication)
- Crystal cracked, scratched, or chipped
Cartier Servicing Cost in Singapore
Our movement overhaul starts from S$360 — the exact price is confirmed after a free assessment, as cost varies by calibre and parts condition. Battery replacement starts from S$35. Crystal replacement and crown & stem repair are quoted individually after inspection, as the crystal profile varies significantly across Cartier's models (the Ballon Bleu's rounded mineral glass and the Tank's flat sapphire are very different jobs).
Authorised Cartier service centres (operated by Richemont) charge a significant premium over independent workshop rates, with turnaround times often running 8–16 weeks. For watches out of manufacturer warranty, an independent service provides the same professional standard at considerably lower cost and faster turnaround.
Cartier's In-House Calibres — Cal 1904 MC & Cal 1904-PS MC
From 2011, Cartier began replacing third-party ETA movements with their own in-house calibres. The Cal 1904 MC is a self-winding automatic used across the Calibre de Cartier, Drive de Cartier, and Clé de Cartier. The Cal 1904-PS MC adds a power reserve indicator. Both movements share a 48-hour power reserve, COSC chronometer standard, and a distinctive side-mounted rotor visible through the case back.
Servicing the 1904 MC requires familiarity with Cartier's proprietary architecture. We service these movements in-house with appropriate tools and lubricants — the same professional standard as any other Swiss in-house calibre.
Should I Use an Authorised Cartier Service Centre or an Independent?
If your Cartier is still within its original manufacturer warranty, contact Cartier directly to preserve it. For out-of-warranty watches — which describes the vast majority of Cartier pieces in Singapore — an independent workshop offers professional-quality service at a significantly lower cost and faster turnaround.
We are not authorised by Cartier or Richemont and do not use Cartier branding in our work. We are skilled independent watchmakers.
