How Often Should You Service Your Longines?
Longines recommends a full mechanical service every 3–5 years. In practice, a well-maintained Longines in a low-impact environment can often run 5–7 years between services, but this depends heavily on usage conditions — a HydroConquest that sees regular diving needs more frequent attention than a Master Collection dress watch worn occasionally.
The core issue is lubricant breakdown. Even when a watch appears to be running fine, oils inside the movement degrade over time, causing microscopic wear to pivots and jewels. Servicing before this wear becomes significant is always cheaper than repairing damage after.
For quartz models (DolceVita, La Grande Classique, Conquest V.H.P., Presence), a battery change every 2–3 years is the key interval. A dead battery left in the case can leak and damage the movement contacts — a far more costly fix than a timely S$20 battery change.
Signs Your Longines Needs Servicing
- Gaining or losing more than ±15 seconds per day (mechanical)
- L888 COSC model running outside its ±4/+6 sec/day specification
- Power reserve shorter than the model's rated 64–72 hours
- Crown stiff, gritty, or difficult to push back in after setting
- HydroConquest bezel feels loose or scratchier than usual
- Moisture, condensation, or fogging visible under the crystal
- Watch stopping intermittently — a classic sign of dried lubrication
Longines Servicing Cost in Singapore
Our movement overhaul starts from S$330 — the exact price is confirmed after a free assessment, as cost varies by calibre complexity and parts condition. Battery replacement starts from S$20. Crystal replacement and crown & stem repair are quoted individually after inspection, as crystal profiles differ between the HydroConquest, Master Collection, Spirit, and DolceVita.
Authorised Longines service centres (operated by Swatch Group) charge a significant premium over independent workshop rates. For watches out of manufacturer warranty, an independent service delivers professional-quality results at considerably lower cost and faster turnaround.
Longines L888 — COSC-Certified Accuracy
Introduced in 2012, the L888 calibre is Longines' in-house automatic movement and the only movement in their range to carry COSC chronometer certification — guaranteeing accuracy of ±4 seconds fast to +6 seconds slow per day on the wrist. It powers the Master Collection Automatic, Spirit, Record, and select Conquest Classic references.
The L888 is based on the ETA A31 architecture but with Longines-specific refinements including a silicon balance spring (in later versions) and higher finishing standards. Servicing it correctly requires proper lubricants for the silicon components and accurate post-service regulation verified across five positions. We service the L888 and the earlier L619 COSC movement in-house.
Should I Use an Authorised Longines Service Centre or an Independent?
If your Longines is still within its original manufacturer warranty, contact Longines directly to preserve it. For out-of-warranty watches — which describes the majority of Longines pieces in Singapore — an independent workshop provides professional service at a significantly lower cost and faster turnaround. We are not authorised by Longines or the Swatch Group.
