Most Battery Replacements
Skip the Most Important Step

Opening a watch case — even briefly — breaks the seal that keeps water out. A battery change without a waterproof test afterwards is an invisible risk: your watch looks fine until the next time it gets wet.

At our workshop, every battery change includes a waterproof pressure test before and after the service — completed in front of you so you can see the result yourself. We test from 10 metres for everyday dress watches all the way to 100 metres for dive watches and sports models.

This is the standard used by authorised service centres. We bring that same level of care to a walk-in, same-day service at a fraction of the cost.

What Can Go Wrong Without a Water Test

  • 💧
Condensation inside the dial — moisture seeps in through a compromised gasket, fogging the crystal and damaging the movement over time.
  • Short-circuit from moisture — a single drop of water on the movement can corrode contacts and kill a quartz watch permanently.
  • 🔩
Loose or misaligned caseback — a battery change done without proper closing tools can leave the case improperly sealed, even if it looks fine.
  • 🏊
Failure mid-swim or dive — dive watches rated to 100m or 200m lose that rating the moment the case is opened and not re-tested.

Our 7-Step Battery Replacement
Process

Every step done in front of you. No mystery, no hidden work.

1

Pre-Service Water Test

We pressure-test your watch before opening it. This tells us the baseline seal integrity and whether any gaskets are already compromised.

2

Scratch-Free Case Opening

We use professional case-back openers matched to your watch type — friction, notch, or screw-back — to open without marking the case or crystal.

3

Battery Leakage Inspection

Dead and old batteries can leak acid onto the movement's contact points. We inspect every watch and use specialist tools to clean corroded contacts. Most shops skip this entirely.

4

Waterproof Seal Inspection

We examine the crown gasket, caseback gasket, and crystal seal. If worn or brittle, we advise replacement — only when genuinely needed, never as a routine upsell.

5

Battery Replaced

We fit the correct cell — Swiss Renata or Japanese brand — matched to your exact calibre and manufacturer specification.

6

Precision Case Closing

Case closed with a professional press or wrench to the correct torque — ensuring the seal is properly re-engaged, not just hand-tightened.

7

Post-Service Water Test

We pressure-test again after closing. You see the result in real time. Only when it passes do we hand the watch back to you.

Professional Tools &
Premium Batteries

The quality of a battery change depends on the tools and cells used. We don't cut corners on either.

🔋 Battery Brands We Stock

We carry the right cell for your watch — not a generic replacement. Different watches require different voltage tolerances and discharge curves.

Renata (Swiss)
Manufactured in Switzerland. The standard used by authorised Rolex, Omega, and TAG Heuer service centres. Zero-mercury, ultra-low self-discharge, exceptional shelf life.
Maxell (Japan)
Japan's most trusted watch battery brand. Widely used in Seiko, Citizen, and Casio factory servicing. SR-series cells with stable voltage output.
Sony / Murata (Japan)
Sony's watch battery division (now Murata). Premium silver-oxide cells used in Grand Seiko and high-end Japanese quartz movements.

🔧 Professional Opening Tools

Using the wrong tool to open a watch is how scratches, stripped threads, and cracked casebacks happen. We use the right tool for every case type.

  • Friction ball opener — for smooth screw-back cases (Rolex, Omega) without slipping or marking the edge.
  • Notch case-back wrench — fits precisely into the slots of notched casebacks to apply torque without slipping.
  • Snap-back knife & press — opens and closes snap-fit casebacks cleanly without bending or gouging the lip.
  • Movement holder & cushion — keeps the movement stable during battery change; prevents accidental drops or contact with the dial.
  • Crystal press — applies even, calibrated pressure when closing — no uneven force that could crack the case or misalign the seal.
  • Waterproof tester (10m–100m range) — dry pressure test; no water used on the watch itself. Safe, accurate, and completed in under 2 minutes.

Watch Battery Replacement FAQ —
Singapore

How much does a watch battery replacement cost in Singapore?

At our workshop, battery replacement ranges from S$10–S$35 for everyday watches, S$35–S$50 for luxury and sports watches, and S$50–S$150 for complicated or vintage pieces. The exact price is confirmed before we start — no surprises. Waterproof testing is included in every service at no extra charge. WhatsApp us a photo for a fast estimate on any watch.

How long does a watch battery replacement take?

Most battery replacements are completed while you wait — typically 15 to 30 minutes including the waterproof test before and after. You don't need to leave your watch with us. Walk in, sit down, and collect it before you go.

Why do you test waterproofing during a battery change?

Opening the case breaks the original factory seal. Without re-testing after closing, there's no way to know if the watch is still water-resistant. We test before opening (to check existing seal condition) and after closing (to confirm the service restored it). You watch both tests happen in real time. This is standard at authorised service centres — we bring that same process to a walk-in service.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment needed for battery replacements. Walk in anytime during our opening hours — daily 1:30PM to 7PM — and we'll see to your watch straight away. We're one minute from Chinatown MRT Exit C.

Will changing the battery at an independent workshop void my warranty?

If your watch is still under the manufacturer's original warranty, we recommend returning it to the authorised service centre to keep that warranty intact. For watches out of warranty, servicing with us won't affect any future warranty — there isn't one to lose. We always tell you this honestly upfront.

What's the difference between a Swiss Renata battery and a Japanese battery?

Renata batteries are Swiss-made and are the cell used by Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer, and other Swiss brands in their authorised service centres. They're known for zero mercury content, very low self-discharge, and consistent voltage output. Japanese brands like Maxell and Murata/Sony are equally reliable and are used by Seiko, Citizen, and Casio factories. We stock both and recommend the right one for your watch's calibre and manufacturer preference.

How often should I replace my watch battery?

Most quartz watch batteries last 2–3 years under normal use. Watches with backlights, alarms, or chronograph functions drain faster — often 1–2 years. Don't leave a dead battery sitting in the watch for months; a leaking cell can permanently damage the movement. When the seconds hand starts jumping in 2–4 second intervals (end-of-life signal), bring it in promptly.

Can you replace the battery in a vintage or hard-to-open watch?

Yes. We're experienced with vintage cases, unusual back types, and watches that general repair shops decline. If you're unsure, WhatsApp us a photo and we'll let you know before you make the trip.

What happens if my old battery has leaked inside the watch?

Battery acid leakage is more common than most people realise — especially in watches where the dead battery has been sitting for months. The acid corrodes the metal contact points inside the movement, which can eventually stop the watch from running even with a new battery fitted. At our workshop, we inspect for leakage every time we open a watch. If we find corrosion, we use specialist cleaning tools to remove it from the contact points before fitting the new cell. Most general shops skip this check entirely. If the leakage has spread to the movement itself, we'll advise you honestly and quote for a full service — but we never do extra work without your approval first.

Do I need to replace the waterproof gaskets when changing the battery?

Not necessarily — and we won't recommend it unless we genuinely think it's needed. During the battery change, we inspect the crown gasket, caseback gasket, and crystal seal. If they're still supple and in good condition, we re-use them and the post-service water test will confirm the watch is properly sealed. If a gasket is visibly brittle, cracked, or flattened, we'll advise you on replacing it and explain exactly why — so you can make an informed decision. This is different from some shops that replace gaskets as a matter of course on every battery service. We only recommend it when the seal genuinely needs it to maintain your watch's water resistance rating.
