Why Full Watch Servicing Matters

A mechanical watch is a precision instrument with hundreds of moving parts. The lubricants inside a movement have a service life — typically 5–7 years under normal conditions, shorter in Singapore's tropical humidity. As oils oxidise and dry out, friction increases across every bearing surface in the gear train. Left unserviced, this accelerates wear on pivots, jewels, and wheel teeth — damage that is expensive to reverse.

Full watch servicing addresses this before damage occurs. A watch that is serviced on schedule will last a lifetime and beyond. A watch that runs on dried lubricant loses accuracy first, then starts to skip and stutter, and eventually stops.

Ultrasonic Cleaning — What It Does

Ultrasonic cleaning is the industry-standard method for cleaning watch components after disassembly. The parts are placed in a tank of specialist cleaning solution and subjected to high-frequency sound waves — typically 40,000 Hz. These waves create microscopic cavitation bubbles that collapse on contact with surfaces, dislodging contaminants from crevices no tool or brush can reach. The result is components that are genuinely clean at a microscopic level, ready for inspection and lubrication.

Pressure Testing — Why It's Non-Negotiable

Every time a watch case is opened — for any reason, including a battery change — the factory seal is broken. A new gasket must be fitted and the watch pressure-tested before it is worn near water. Skipping this step leaves the watch looking fine on the outside while being vulnerable to moisture ingress that causes fogging, short circuits, and corrosion. How Often Should You Service Your Watch?

The standard recommendation is every 5–7 years for mechanical watches. In Singapore, the humidity accelerates lubricant degradation, so every 5 years is the safer interval. Quartz watches need less frequent servicing but benefit from a gasket check every 2–3 years, especially if worn near water. Signs a service is overdue: accuracy drifting more than ±15 sec/day, a stiff or sticky crown, the power reserve noticeably shorter than normal, or any moisture visible under the crystal.

Independent vs. Authorised Service — Which is Right for You?

Authorised service centres are the right choice for watches still under warranty — servicing there preserves manufacturer coverage. For out-of-warranty watches (which is the vast majority of watches brought in for service), an independent workshop with brand experience delivers the same professional standard at significantly lower cost and far shorter turnaround.
