Why It Matters Where You Change Your Watch Battery
Changing a watch battery looks simple. In practice, three things can go wrong at the wrong shop — and each one can cost you far more than the battery service itself.
⚠️
Wrong case back tool → scratches A universal friction ball or ill-fitting spanner wrench slips and leaves marks on the case back. On a Seamaster or Submariner, that scratch is permanent and devalues the watch.
⚠️
Skipped gasket → water damage Every time a water-resistant case back is opened, the gasket should be inspected and replaced if worn. Skip this step and your "water-resistant" watch is no longer sealed — the next rain could reach the movement.
⚠️
No pressure test → false confidence A snap-back case can appear closed but not be fully seated. A pressure test confirms the seal is intact before you wear the watch. Without it, you won't know until water gets in.
⚠️
Wrong battery type → short life Many shops replace by size alone. The correct battery is identified by the watch calibre — wrong chemistry (silver oxide vs. lithium) means the battery drains in months, not years.
⚠️ Don't remove the battery thinking "it won't leak if it's not in there"
Leaving a watch without a battery for more than 2–3 years is harmful. Watch movements need regular gear movement to keep the lubricating oils distributed. Without a battery, the oils dry out and gears can seize — the next battery you install may not get the watch running again. You'll need a full movement service instead. Replace the battery promptly rather than removing it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I change my watch battery in Singapore? +
WatchRepair.com.sg at People's Park Complex (#03-62, 1 Park Road) is open daily 1:30pm–7pm. No appointment needed. Most standard batteries are replaced while you wait in 15–30 minutes, and all water-resistant watches are pressure tested after the change.
Can I walk in to change my watch battery? +
Yes. We are a walk-in shop, open daily. If you want to confirm the current wait time before heading down, WhatsApp us at +65 9181 6628.
How much does it cost to change a watch battery in Singapore? +
Standard quartz watches from S$25 (fashion brands) to S$45–S$65 (Swiss chronograph or multi-function). G-Shock with module reset from S$30. Ebel specialist service S$55. Solar capacitor (Citizen Eco-Drive, Seiko Solar) and Kinetic capacitor from S$80. All prices include gasket inspection and pressure testing.
Is a pressure test included in the battery change price? +
Yes. All water-resistant watches are pressure tested after we close the case — included in the standard price, not an add-on. If the watch fails the pressure test, we replace the faulty gasket on the spot.
How long does a watch battery change take? +
Standard quartz watches: 15–30 minutes. Chronograph and multi-function models: 30–60 minutes. G-Shock (with module reset and 200M pressure test): 30–45 minutes. Ebel (bracelet removal required): 45–60 minutes.
Where can I change a Citizen Eco-Drive or Seiko Solar battery in Singapore? +
These watches use a rechargeable solar capacitor, not a standard replaceable battery. When the capacitor fails, it must be replaced by a technician familiar with the specific calibre. We handle solar capacitor replacement from S$80, covering Citizen calibres E168, V157, V172, V175 and Seiko V195.
Can I change a G-Shock battery anywhere in Singapore? +
Technically yes, but G-Shock battery replacement requires an AC module reset specific to each module number — otherwise alarms and functions stop working. The inner floating module also needs correct re-seating, and the watch should be pressure tested to 200M. Not all shops do all three steps.
Where can I change an Ebel watch battery in Singapore? +
Ebel watches like the 1911, Wave, and Sport Classic have integrated bracelets that conceal the case back — the bracelet must be partially removed before the case can be opened. Most general shops decline Ebel battery changes. We carry Ebel-specific tools and service Ebel batteries from S$55.
Should I remove my watch battery to stop it from leaking? +
No. Removing the battery and leaving the watch idle is actually harmful. Without a battery, watch oils dry out over 2–3 years. When you reinstall a battery, dried gears may seize and the watch will not run — requiring a full movement service. Replace the battery promptly instead of removing it.
