⚠️ Don't leave a dead battery in your watch. A depleted battery left inside a watch will eventually leak. Battery acid corrodes the contacts and can permanently damage the movement — turning a S$25 battery change into a S$200+ repair. If your watch has stopped or the seconds hand is jumping in 2-second intervals (end-of-life signal), bring it in promptly.
⚠️ Removing the battery to "prevent leaking" is also a bad idea. Some owners remove a dead battery thinking an empty watch won't leak — but this creates a different problem. Watch movements rely on oils applied to the gears, jewels, and escapement to function correctly. Without a battery, the watch sits completely still. Over time — typically 2 to 3 years without movement — those lubricants dry out, congeal, or migrate away from where they are needed. When a new battery is eventually installed, the dry gears do not run freely and the watch either runs inaccurately or seizes. A watch left without a battery for years often needs a full movement service on top of a battery change. The correct solution is to replace a dead battery promptly rather than removing it.

🔵 Water Resistance Re-Tested After Every Battery Change

Opening the case back to replace a battery exposes the internal gaskets and seals. We inspect the crown gasket and case gaskets during every battery change, replace worn seals, and pressure-test every water-resistant watch after re-sealing. Your watch leaves with its rated water resistance restored — not just a new battery.

How It Works

Walk in — the whole process takes 15 to 30 minutes.

01
Walk In
No appointment needed. Our watchmaker inspects your watch and confirms the battery type and price on the spot.
02
Battery Replaced
Case back opened, old battery removed, new Renata / Sony Murata / Maxell cell installed. Gaskets inspected.
03
Seals Re-Checked
Crown gasket and case gasket checked. Worn seals replaced before re-sealing the case.
04
Pressure Tested
Water-resistant watches are pressure-tested to their rated depth after sealing. You get your watch back verified.

Full Range of Watch Gaskets — Replaced on the Spot

If your watch fails the water resistance pressure test after a battery change, we can replace the gasket immediately — no second visit, no waiting.

🛡️

We carry an extensive stock of crown gaskets, case back gaskets, and crystal gaskets covering hundreds of Swiss and Japanese watch references — including TAG Heuer, Omega, Cartier, Seiko, Citizen, G-Shock, Longines, Tissot, Hamilton, IWC, and more.

Our process: battery replaced → case re-sealed → pressure test run. If the watch fails the pressure test, we check which gasket has lost its seal, replace it from stock, re-seal, and re-test — all in the same visit. You leave with a watch that holds water, not one that we've "hoped for the best" on.

Crown Gasket
The most common failure point. The crown gasket seals the winding stem entry — it degrades with daily use and is the first thing we inspect during every battery change. Replaced as standard if worn.
Case Back Gasket
The O-ring or square-section seal that runs around the case back. Hardened or flattened gaskets no longer compress properly when the case back is closed — we replace them to restore the original seal.
Crystal Gasket
The seal between the crystal (glass) and the case. Less commonly disturbed during a battery change but inspected visually. If the crystal is loose or the gasket has shrunk, we replace it from stock before the pressure test.

Gasket replacement is included in the battery change price for standard models. For premium luxury references or specialist gaskets not in our immediate stock, we will advise on lead time — typically 1–3 days.

Specialist Case Opening Tools — No Scratches on Your Case Back

The most common damage from a poor battery change is scratches around the case back. It happens when the wrong tool is forced into a case back notch. We use the correct tool for every case back type.

🔧
Jaxa Spanner Wrench
Used on screw-down case backs with two notches — Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer Aquaracer, Breitling, IWC. The pins are sized and positioned to match each case back precisely before turning. No improvised screwdrivers, no slip damage.
🔧
Watch Case Back Press + Fitted Dies
Used on snap-back case backs — Cartier Tank, Longines, Tissot, Hamilton, fashion brands. A die matched to the exact case back diameter applies even downward pressure to re-seat the back flush. No thumb pressure, no risk of a canted or incompletely closed back.
🔧
Rubber Friction Ball / Grip
For lightly threaded or stiff snap-backs where the grip diameter allows a non-marring turn. The rubber grips the case back without touching the metal surface — leaves no tool marks on brushed or polished finishes.
🔧
Case Holder Vice with Soft Jaws
The watch is held in a padded vice during opening and closing — not in hand. A secured watch means controlled torque and no slipping. Soft polyurethane jaws protect the lugs, crown, and case sides from dents or grip marks.
🔧
Multi-Notch Case Back Opener (Adjustable)
For case backs with three, four, or six notches — common on Seiko, G-Shock, and some Cartier references. The adjustable arms set to the exact notch positions, distributing torque evenly and preventing the rounding or gouging that a fixed wrench causes on the wrong case.
🔧
Micro-Fibre Case Cushion
The watch rests on a microfibre cushion throughout the service — not on a hard bench surface. Bezels, crystals, and bracelets remain scratch-free during the entire battery change process.

If you have had a battery changed elsewhere and noticed circular scratches around the case back — this is the result of a screwdriver blade being used where a spanner wrench is required. We inspect the case back before and after every service and can advise on polishing if previous tool damage is present.

Ebel Watch Battery Replacement — One of Very Few Shops in Singapore That Can Do This

Ebel watches — particularly the 1911, Wave, Sport Classic, and Beluga references — are notorious for their integrated bracelet and case design. The case back is often concealed under the bracelet end links and requires the bracelet to be partially removed before the case back can even be accessed. Many watch shops in Singapore decline Ebel battery changes because they lack the correct case opening tools and bracelet removal knowledge.

We have the Ebel-specific case back tools and bracelet link removal equipment to open these watches correctly without damaging the integrated bracelet or case flanks. After the battery change, the watch is pressure-tested and the bracelet re-attached. Walk in with your Ebel — we can assess it on the spot.

Fashion & Lifestyle Watch Battery Replacement

Most fashion watch batteries take 15 minutes or less. Walk in anytime.

Solar & Kinetic Capacitor Replacement

Solar and kinetic watches do not use a standard replaceable battery — they use a rechargeable capacitor. When the capacitor fails, the watch needs specialist service.

☀️ Solar Watches — Citizen Eco-Drive & Seiko Solar

Solar watches charge a secondary rechargeable cell (capacitor) via a solar panel beneath the dial. Over time — typically 10 to 15 years — the capacitor degrades and can no longer hold a charge. Symptoms: the watch stops within minutes of being taken indoors, or no longer runs overnight despite being exposed to light during the day.

  • Capacitor replacement from S$80
  • Citizen Eco-Drive: all calibres accepted (E168, E820, H800 series and more)
  • Seiko Solar: V157, V172, V175, V195 and other solar calibres
  • After replacement: solar panel conductivity checked, full charge cycle tested
  • Water resistance re-tested after re-sealing

Note: if the solar panel (dial) itself has failed rather than the capacitor, this requires a movement-level replacement. We will advise during the free assessment.

🔄 Kinetic Watches — Seiko Kinetic & Spring Drive

Seiko Kinetic watches use a rotor (like an automatic watch) to generate electricity, storing it in a rechargeable capacitor rather than a mainspring. When the capacitor fails, the watch loses power quickly even after vigorous winding. Symptoms: watch stops after a few hours despite being worn all day, or the energy reserve indicator drops rapidly.

  • Kinetic capacitor replacement from S$60
  • All Seiko Kinetic calibres accepted: 5M42, 5M43, 5M45, 5M62, 5M65, 7D48, 7D56
  • After replacement: rotor efficiency checked, power reserve confirmed
  • Water resistance re-tested after re-sealing

Seiko Spring Drive is a mechanical movement with a quartz regulator — it does not use a capacitor. If your Spring Drive is losing time, it requires a movement service, not a battery change.

G-Shock & Baby-G Battery Change — Why It Requires Specialist Knowledge

A G-Shock battery change is not the same as a standard watch battery change. Getting it wrong means the alarm stops working, functions are lost, or the watch is no longer waterproof.

🔔
Alarm & Module Reset After Battery Change
Every G-Shock and Baby-G module requires an "AC" (All Clear) reset after a battery is replaced — a specific button sequence that varies by module number. Without this reset, the alarm, world time, stopwatch, and countdown functions may not operate correctly or may fail entirely. We carry the reset procedure for all current and discontinued G-Shock module numbers.
🏗️
Inner Module Must Be Correctly Re-Seated
G-Shock's shock resistance comes from a floating inner module suspended inside an outer case with protector bumpers. When the case is opened, the inner module must be correctly re-seated in the shock-absorbing housing before the case back is closed. If it is not seated properly, the watch loses its shock resistance and the case back does not close flush.
💧
Water Resistance Preserved — 200M Standard
All G-Shock models are water-resistant to at least 200M (20 ATM) — higher than most luxury Swiss watches. This rating must be restored after every battery change. We pressure-test every G-Shock and Baby-G to confirm 20 ATM water resistance after re-sealing. A G-Shock that has had its battery changed without a pressure test should not be used in water regardless of what the dial says.
🔌
Correct Battery Contact & Insulator Placement
G-Shock modules use an insulator (a small plastic spacer) between the battery and the contact plate. If the insulator is incorrectly placed or omitted, the module draws incorrect current — causing erratic timekeeping, function failures, or abnormally fast battery drain. We replace the insulator correctly every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about watch battery replacement in Singapore.

Where can I change my watch battery in Singapore today?
Walk in to watchrepair.com.sg at People's Park Complex #03-62, 1 Park Road, Singapore 059108 — 1 minute from Chinatown MRT Exit C. Open daily 1:30PM–7PM including weekends and public holidays. No appointment needed. Most battery changes are done while you wait.
How much does watch battery replacement cost in Singapore?
Prices at watchrepair.com.sg start from S$25 for standard quartz watches (Casio, fashion brands). Japanese water-resistant watches (Seiko, Citizen, Orient) from S$25–S$30. Swiss mid-range (Tissot, Hamilton, Longines) from S$35. Swiss luxury quartz (TAG Heuer, Omega, Breitling) from S$45. Premium luxury (Cartier, IWC, Hermès) from S$55. Chronograph quartz from S$45–S$65. All prices include gasket inspection and water resistance testing. Price confirmed before any work begins.
Does changing a watch battery affect water resistance?
Yes — this is one of the most misunderstood aspects of battery replacement. Opening the case back exposes the internal gaskets. If the gaskets are worn and not replaced, or the case is not correctly re-torqued, the watch's water resistance is reduced or lost entirely. At watchrepair.com.sg we inspect all gaskets, replace worn seals, and pressure-test every water-resistant watch after re-sealing. Your watch leaves meeting its rated water resistance — not just with a new battery.
Can I change my TAG Heuer battery at an independent watchmaker in Singapore?
Yes. Independent watchmakers are fully permitted to replace TAG Heuer batteries. We stock the correct Renata cells for TAG Heuer Aquaracer, Formula 1, Link, and Carrera quartz. Every TAG Heuer battery change at watchrepair.com.sg includes a crown gasket inspection and a pressure test after re-sealing. Done while you wait, from S$45. TAG Heuer battery service →
Can I change my Cartier battery in Singapore without going to the Cartier boutique?
Yes. We replace Cartier batteries for the Tank, Santos, Ballon Bleu, Ronde, and Pasha quartz references. The Cartier cabochon sapphire crown and its internal gasket are carefully inspected and re-seated during every service. Water resistance re-tested after sealing. From S$55, done while you wait. Cartier battery service →
How often should I replace my watch battery?
Most quartz batteries last 2–3 years. High-drain models (chronographs with running sub-dials, watches with backlights, tide indicators, or alarm functions) may need replacement every 12–18 months. Swiss watches often signal a low battery with the seconds hand jumping in 2-second intervals rather than 1-second steps — this is the end-of-life indicator. Bring your watch in as soon as you notice this; a dead battery left inside will eventually leak and cause damage.
My Citizen Eco-Drive or Seiko Solar watch has stopped — is that a battery?
Citizen Eco-Drive and Seiko Solar watches use a rechargeable capacitor (not a standard battery) charged by light. If the watch stops after being left in the dark, exposing it to strong light for 30–60 minutes may revive it. If the capacitor has degraded and can no longer hold a charge, it needs to be replaced — this is a more involved service starting from S$80. Bring it in for a free assessment and we will check the capacitor charge level.
Do you replace G-Shock batteries in Singapore?
Yes. We replace batteries in all Casio G-Shock, Baby-G, Pro Trek, and G-Steel models at People's Park Complex. G-Shock watches are water-resistant to at least 200M and require proper re-sealing after a battery change — we pressure-test every G-Shock after the battery is replaced. From S$30, done while you wait. G-Shock battery replacement →
What battery brands do you use?
We use Renata (Swiss), Sony Murata (Japanese), and Maxell (Japanese) batteries — the same brands used by authorised service centres. We do not use generic no-name cells. Battery size is matched precisely to the watch reference to ensure correct current draw and longevity.
